News from Washington Pest Services

With Fall, and soon Winter closing in, we are seeing an increase of pest insects and rodents moving into warmer and drier, businesses, sheds, etc.  Rat sightings and evidence, such as damaged holiday decorations or droppings in storage bins or boxes seem to dominate the phones.

Also, the ever present "sugar ants" are more prominent inside as exterior food and harborage sources become less than desirable, and Fall is Spider season as everyone is noticing.  Fleas tend to be more evident during the fall months as well. Insect pests that "overwinter" or hibernate are now moving in.  The outbreaks of Ladybugs, Box Elder beetles, or Cluster flies for example, in the early Spring are due to the insects moving in now and overwintering in attic and wall voids.  In the spring when there are days of sunshine, these voids warm enough to arouse these pests and make them think it's time to come out, but as they soon find out, it's still too cold outside, but now they're awake and ready to go.  Where do they go instead?  Inside where its nice and warm... sometimes by the thousands!  The time is now to stop this from happening then.

Our Quarterly pest preventative maintenance program can significantly reduce these issues.  Our fall and winter services focus on exterior structural areas where pests might enter, such as in the eaves at bird-blocking, or at the foundation vent screens and bottom of siding. Insects can enter behind window trims and other cracks.  Adult rats need only 1/2" gap, or a hole the size of a quarter for entry; 1/4" for mice.  We're always looking for potential pest issues to get control before pests do.

If you already have our services, you probably know you don't have much to worry about, but if you don't, give us a call.
